D'espairsRay is a leader of a musical movement known in Japan
as visual kei. Visual kei is a genre that started in the mid-80's
and consists of all-male groups who put equal emphasis on both
sound and looks, often creating a dark, androgynous image to go
along with the deep concepts most visual kei bands have.
D'espairsRay started playing music in 1999 and has never had
a member change. There are four members: HIZUMI (singer), Karyu
(guitar), ZERO (bass), and TSUKASA (drum). D'espairsRay has not
yet signed to a major label. Despite being active for over six
years, D'espairsRay had not released a full album until June of
2005, which gave them plenty of time and preparation to create
the incredible audio journey entitled [Coll:set]. With the concept
of fighting to gain freedom from both society and the self, [Coll:set]
is a dark and powerful experience that will leave you breathless
and begging for more.
It is many fans' belief that D'espairsRay is a "live band"
that they cannot be fully understood until you take part of the
contagious energy that pulses from any stage they stand upon.
Their lives are absolutely amazing and are definitely an eye-opening
experience, if not a life-altering one. Always in perfect harmony
with each other and never tiring out, D'espairsRay is simply a
band that cannot be missed.
